Despite all the films and TV shows we parrot on about day in day out, Fearless Vampire Killers can in fact read! I’m not just talking about those picture books like Hellboy and Preacher, I’m talking about tomes sans illustration. That’s right folks, we’ve actually read novels!!! Dun dun dun! So yeah, I’m going to tell you about a novel I read recently because it was terrifying and sent many a shiver down my spinal chord.
That’s it there , William Hope Hodgeson’s magisterial magnum opus, The House on the Borderland. One of the most influential novels ever to grace the horror genre, it’s ideas can be found in everything from H.P. Lovecraft to Stephen King. The above edition is the one I read, and you can see how excited I was to open it. What I found inside however, was like nothing I had expected – it’s quite simply a monumental mindfuck, half the time terrifying you, the other half willing you to question your reality. It also has some fantastic action sequences, and I can’t believe it’s not yet been made into a Hollywood film. I think I’ll make that my task. Plus, for anyone who’s read Ruple & Evelyn parts of the novel bear eerie resemblances to the Watchtower chapter, with Henry and such, which is weird because I’d never read this before a month ago.
So yeah, you should read it. It will weird you out innit.
In OTHER news. Buffy series two has been purchased, so i guess soon there’ll be a fuckoff big blog about that. Buffy in Episode 1 WTF! Beeatch! It’s weird, cos as a kid none of the more adult themes got through to me, i just wanted the shock factor. Anyway I’ll save that until the Buffy blog.
Yesterday we played the weirdest show ever. Just before our set we had a laser tag match and it was just us! All against all, quite a spooky experience actually. I won.
Oh yeah, and something cool’s coming soon. So stay tuned.
Until my next letter, or never…
